Cremona have finally moved in the market bringing in Ethan Happ on loan from Olympiakos but despite being a clear upgrade over both Tiby and Sobin, I'm not convinced it's what the team needed considering his lack of athleticism and long-range shooting. His first couple of appearances coincided with two wins for Cremona over Fortitudo who are struggling on the road and Trento who are in a very delicate position at the moment playing without key-man Aaron Craft, so the next few games will probably be more meaningful to draw conclusions. Trieste's issues seem pretty obvious and these are the poor integration and performance of their new backcourt duo of Elmore and Justice and consequently their dysfunctional offense, dead-last in offensive efficiency producing just over 96 points over 100 possessions. Still, Trieste have competed hard as 6 of their 8 matches were decided in the last seconds despite having faced a brutal schedule so far, clearly the hardest of any other team in the Serie A. Meanwhile Elmore produced his best performance last week against Virtus Bologna and it will be interesting to see if can build on this to jump-start his season especially with Fernandez likely to miss the game. Trieste are good value here at 3.50.

Pesaro have somehow managed to avoid relegation the last few years despite having arguably the weakest team in Serie A and will be looking to perform another miracle this season considering their terrible start. The numbers really speak for themselves. Winless after 8 matches, dead-last in defensive efficiency and net rating allowing opponents a whopping 41% from the 3-point arc, worst rebounding team in the league, in fact there are few meaningful statistical categories where they aren't near the bottom. More worryingly, there doesn't seem to be much room for improvement unless the team decides to move in the market which looks unlikely at the moment considering their financial situation. Things only got from bad to worse with Chapman's injury last week. Brescia excel precisely where Pesaro's weakest points are as they possess the most efficient offense in the league and are a very strong rebounding and 3-point shooting team. Moreover with no Eurocup game scheduled next week for Brescia, there isn't a reason for the hosts to preserve energies here. On paper the game seems as lopsided as they come and it's really up to Brescia to cover the 12-point handicap.

It has been a wild and unpredictable first two months in the Euroleague, a real minefield from a betting perspective and that's why I decided postponing any picks until some safe conclusions could be drawn. But it's about time for our first bet as Baskonia are visiting Panathinaikos at the OAKA arena. The Greeks have monopolized the news this week with the official return of legendary coach Rick Pitino to the team's bench and the two wins recorded last week after the firing of Pedoulakis have provided much relief as Panathinaikos's campaign was about to derail after the shocking home loss to Alba Berlin. I'm not convinced about all the hype and over-enthusiasm though. Pitino's return is an excellent move but the team has some serious issues to solve mostly on the defensive and rebounding departments while the soft schedule has flattered the Greens's performances so far. Baskonia are arriving at Athens in a good momentum after 3 consecutive wins, possessing the best defense in the Euroleague and can really hurt Panathinaikos on the boards. The Greens like to play on a high tempo which Baskonia should have no problem matching considering their level of athleticism. Overall this is a tough matchup for the hosts who have not presented any proof of reliability and consistency so far to support this kind of odds.

Greece lost chance to promote directly to EURO 2020, but they are succesfully continuing in rebuilding national team. They played very good match in Armenia, and today I expect, they will continue produce qualitative football. Finland has succesfully qualified and I think, they can take rest and try new players. Greece should not definitelly lose at home ground.
